Theory of Art
Art sincerely explores the human experience in various ways. It magnifies the voices of those who need a megaphone to be heard, and it confronts us with the harsh realities we want to ignore. With these conversations, art fosters a strong community and it inspires us to acknowledge the emotions we all repress.
Artist Statement
My art is an avenue of honest self-expression. When I am creating my art, I feel as if the paper and pencil are my stage, and I use vivid descriptions and concrete language to create radiant images of the experiences and thoughts I struggle to say. My art is a call to those who also feel as I do; each story and poem is an unrelenting exploration of intense emotions that is special, yet memorable, in expression.
Value Statement
Upon reading these works, the viewer empathizes with the feelings being expressed so authentically, and will in turn recognize how much of those feelings they actually share. The strong images Kennysha Woods creates will stick in the viewer’s mind because of the uniquely crafted descriptions and language that bring those feelings to light.
Positioning Statement
Uniqueness and authenticity is hard to find in contemporary fiction and poetry these days. My writing isn’t aimed to be just relatable enough that people will read it once and then forget about it. Instead, my writing illuminates those feelings and experiences we all grapple with and want to say, it continuously engages those looking for the voice to say it, and it brings those people together to share those feelings and experiences.
